2021-2022 Artists-in-Residence

APL-CSRPC Artists-in-Residence Program 2.0

Artists-in-Residence Program 2.0: Announcement of 2022 Pause, Celebration, Recalibration and Renewal

Reflecting on a decade of support for our community of artists and envisioning the next decade

2022 marks a decade of impact of Arts + Public Life’s flagship Artists in Residence (AIR) program in collaboration with the Center for the Study of Race, Politics, and Culture (CSRPC), — 32 artists, 10 exhibitions, and thousands of connections. APL and CSRPC will temporarily pause the 2022-2023 in-person studio residencies to focus on a 10-year retrospective exhibition celebrating artist alumni in Summer 2022. In 2023, we will launch a renewed residency program developed in consultation with our community of artists, curators, and scholars.

It has been an honor to support all of the artists’ visions. We’ve witnessed each cohort of Artists-in-Residence transition into other creative opportunities, gain recognition, and be acknowledged for the compelling work they continue to produce. We are excited by this opportunity to reflect on a decade of this remarkable program, celebrate alumni artists, and launch a renewed initiative that meets the challenges and opportunities of the coming decade.

As we gather to recalibrate the AIRs program over the next few months, we will be reaching out to our constituents to envision the next decade of the AIRs program. Specifically, we will focus on which elements of the program led to the greatest success for artists’ long term prospects and most align with APL’s mission of creating neighborhood vibrancy through the arts.

The on-site, ten-month Artists-in-Residence program will relaunch in 2023 with a call for artists. Please stay tuned throughout 2022 for updates on the AIRs retrospective exhibition, and for the release of the 2023 artist-in-residence application by signing up for the APL and CSRPC newsletters.
