2023 CSRPC Mellon Faculty Grants

We are now accepting applications for the Mellon Grant for Race Studies Centers: Research, Teaching, and Partnerships – R6!

CSRPC Faculty affiliates working in the humanities and humanistic social sciences may apply for research and programming funding in the categories below.

Humanities Laboratories: These new labs will allow faculty to engage their peers and students in experimental methodologies and pedagogies to address current issues of race and ethnicity in society. The humanities laboratories will also result in new graduate-level courses.

  • Amount available: $25,000 per year (amounts per round may vary based on fund usage from previous year(s))

Course Innovation Development and Cross-Campus Teaching: Grants will be available to faculty to encourage new course development, including broad survey, foundational theory, and methods courses on topics of race and ethnicity.

Transdisciplinary Research Idea Incubator (TRI2): CSRPC Faculty Affiliates will receive grants to convene “idea incubators” with colleagues across a wide range of disciplinary, methodological, or theoretical orientations to collectively think about shared topics of interest and explore possibilities for longer-term collaborative, transdisciplinary projects, or structures.

  • Amount available: $32,500 per year (amounts per round may vary based on fund usage from previous year(s))

Race at the Center of the Humanities Programming: CSRPC will strengthen its collaborative relationships with art institutions and humanities centers on campus by creating a series of Race at the Center of the Humanities events, which may take the form of symposia, small conferences, lectures, or performances.

  • Amount available: $25,000 per year (amounts per round may vary based on fund usage from previous year(s))

Faculty and Postdoctoral Publications Support: Modest grants will support the publication and enhancement of scholarly monographs and articles, museum exhibitions, or artistic projects by faculty and postdoctoral fellows working on humanities-based projects centering on race and ethnicity.

  • Amount available: $9,000 per year (amounts per round may vary based on fund usage from previous year(s))

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTOINS:

  • Can I apply for funding in multiple categories?
    Yes. When applying for multiple categories, you must submit a separate proposal and budget for each category.

  • How much funding is available for each category?
    Please review the budget template, per each category you wish to apply, for the most up-to-date available funds.

  • Are the line items under each category the only option(s) for spending funds, if awarded? 
    No. Funding can be distributed across line items, within the same category.

  • When is the next opportunity to apply for funding?
    Spring Quarter, for fund usage in 2023, the final year of funding.

  • Are funds transferred to my FAS, if awarded?
    No. Per grant guidelines, funds are not allowed to be transferred and are managed by CSRPC. Funds are made available through direct payment(s) and reimbursement.

  • When will I know if my proposal was approved or denied funding?
    Email notifications, to all applicants, are sent about three weeks after noted proposal submission deadline.
