Neomi Rao
Neomi Rao, Beyond Prisons Graduate Fellow
Neomi Rao is a PhD student in the Political Science at the University of Chicago. Broadly, her research focuses on how organizers and activists in social movements imagine better worlds, enact strategies to advance their goals, and arrange their personal lives in accordance with their beliefs, with a specific focus on contemporary movements to abolish carceral systems. She holds a BS in Biology and a BA in Linguistics from the University of Maryland, a MA in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago, has worked in non-profit organizations in the U.S. and in India, and is an active organizer in the UChicago graduate student union. At Beyond Prisons, she has assisted with facilitating the P+NAP Think Tank, as a TA for mixed-enrollment classes with UChicago and Stateville students, and has supported various CSRPC initiatives.
